High Voltage Cable Testing

"It's like a EKG test for underground cables."

IETC offers High Voltage Cable testing. IEEE and Neta have approved a new, safe means for testing older 5KV, 15KV, and 33KV cables. IETC uses very low frequency (VFL) high voltage test instruments in conjunction with portable Tangent Delta (Tan Delta) measuring system that plots the cable performance versus test voltage (see below). IEEE and NETA both recommend the facility owners do not test existing cables over 5 years old with a DC Hi Pot tester at elevated voltages. VFL is the preferred new test method.
